Westfield State Earns Number One Seed in 2021 MASCAC Women's Soccer Tournament
The Westfield State Owls have earned the #1 seed in the 2021 MASCAC Women's Soccer Tournament after going a perfect 7-0. The tournament begins Tuesday with the quarterfinal games.

Starting with the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, November 2, #3 Bridgewater State will host #6 Fitchburg State while #4 Framingham State will entertain #5 Salem State both at 7 pm. The winner of Bridgewater/Fitchburg will face #2 Worcester State at 6 pm while #1 Westfield State plays the winner of Framingham/Salem at 7 pm.
The winners of the semifinal contests will compete for the MASCAC Tournament Championship on Sunday, November 7 at the highest remaining seed. The champ winner will receive the MASCAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Earning a first round bye, #1 seed Westfield State were a perfect 7-0 in league play to earn the MASCAC Regular Season Title. Delaney Parker had an outstanding first year with the Owls, netting a DIII and conference leading 29 goals with eight assists for 66 points. Parker is first in the MASCAC in goals, points and shots and second in assists. Teammate Jenn Rennich leads the league in assists with 15 while also sitting tied for fourth nationally.
Worcester State claims the other bye as the second seed. The Lancers closed out the MASCAC schedule with a 5-1-1 record. In goal for the Lancers is Ashley Spellman who is first in the league in save percentage at .830, second in goals against average at 1.17 and shutouts with six and tied for second in goal against average with 18.
Hosting one of the two quarterfinal final rounds is Bridgewater State with the third seed. The Bears were also 5-1-1 during conference play this season. Michelle Belcher led the way for the Bears with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points, while adding five game-winning goals all which are in the top five of the conference at the end of the regular season.
Framingham State hosts the other quarterfinal as the fourth seed. The Rams won three games during the league season. Calen Frongillo found the back of the net five times while adding two assists for 12 points.
Rounding out the tournament teams is Salem State and Fitchburg State with the fifth and sixth seed, respectively. The Vikings earned three MASCAC wins while the Falcons had two. In her first season, Jasmine Moran led the Vikings in goals scored with eight and points at 18. For the Falcons, Shannon McCarthy netted five goals for 10 points to lead her team.
In 2019, three seed Worcester State defeated four seed Bridgewater State 1-0 in double overtime to take home the MASCAC Tournament crown and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
