Bridgewater State Repeats as MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Champions
The Bridgewater State Bears claimed their fourth straight MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday at Wheaton College.

The Bears finished first with 254 points while Westfield State came in second with 153 points. Fitchburg State and Worcester State were third and fourth with 113 and 31 points, respectively.
Bridgewater State took home 10 individual MASCAC titles and two relays with several 2-3 event winners. Matthew Lighten was a two event champion in the 60 meter dash (6.95) and 200 meter dash (22.23). Kevin McBirney also claimed two MASCAC titles with a first place finish in the 1,000 meter run (2:40.93) and mile run (4:41.44). In the two longest running events of the day, Trevor Wysong crossed the line first with a time of 9:00.25 in the 3,000 and 15:40.48 in the 5,000 meters. Dimetri Morris earned a MASCAC crown in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.34.
The Bears quartet of Nathan Candido, Mason Matias, Gavin Weldon and Michael Young were first in the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:34.30 while Matias, McBirney, Chigozie Adigwe and Michael Young claimed the 4x400 title with a time of 3:37.41.
On the field side, Exondus Barnes took home two MASCAC medals in the high jump with a clearing of 1.90m and long jump at 6.99m. Jacob Belcher rounded out the Bridgewater State honorees with a top distance in the weight throw of 14.78m.
Runner-up Westfield State finished with three individual titles and the final relay. Brenden LaForest crossed the line first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.94 while teammate Kyle O'Brien was first in the 600 meter run in 1:30.34. Enrique Delgado, Nick Hanley, Brendan Hager and Aidan O'Neil were MASCAC champs in the 4x800 with a time of 8:46.89. Shane Clark had the highest clearing in the pole vault at 2.70m to win a conference crown.
Fitchburg State rounded out the individual champions with three. On the track, Taban Manyok was first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.89. The Falcons had the two farthest distances in the triple jump and shot put where Eric Shimiyimana was first with a jump of 13.57m and Nick Zeoli a top throw of 14.04m.
The MASCAC teams will meet again in two weeks at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Middlebury College.
