Bridgewater State Finishes At Top of MASCAC Field Hockey Standings
The Bridgewater State Bears Field Hockey team is the top head-to-head finisher among the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference after the completion of the 2013 season schedule.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State Bears Field Hockey team is the top head-to-head finisher among the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference after the completion of the 2013 season schedule.
Playing in the Little East as their automatic qualifier conference, the Bears finished second in the conference standings with a 9-2 record and a perfect 5-0 against fellow MASCAC schools. They closed out their season last week in the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament in a heartbreaking double overtime loss against Plymouth State.
Goalkeeper Kacie Sturgeon led the way for the Bears, landing herself on the Little East Field Hockey First Team All-Conference. The senior from Dartmouth, Massachusetts finished the year with a 16-6 record and 131 saves. Nabbing a spot on the All-Conference Second Team were teammates Carissa Vizakis, Jaclyn Holahan and Olivia Galvin.
Rounding out the Third Team All-Conference for the Bears was Demi Miskiv. Fellow MASCAC student-athletes also on the team were Lauren Pazdziorny and Stephanie Morrison of Salem State and Kelli McPherson of Worcester State.
By winning the MASCAC regular season title in field hockey, the Bears secure points towards the Howard C. Smith Cup which is given every year to the MASCAC institution that compiles the most points based on the placement of each of its programs competing in the 15 league championships.
