Amy O'Sullivan of Westfield State Named 2022 MASCAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Three-sport student-athlete Amy O'Sullivan of Westfield State has been named the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the Athletics Directors from around the conference.
Three-sport student-athlete Amy O'Sullivan of Westfield State has been named the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the Athletics Directors from around the conference.
The senior from Greenfield, Mass. had a storied career during her time as an Owl, competing in women's cross country, women's indoor and outdoor track and field. During the 2021 cross country season, O'Sullivan crossed the line first to claim MASCAC Runner of the Year while leading the team to the team championship and All-Conference honors. She went on to finish eighth at the New England Regional and claim a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
Her success continued this year during indoor track and field where O'Sullivan was a three-time MASCAC Champion in the mile, 3000m and 5000m. She would add All-New England honors to her resume with an eighth place finish. She qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship in the 5,000 and would finish 18th in the event.
O'Sullivan wrapped her outstanding collegiate career with the 2022 outdoor season. She won the double distance conference titles at the MASCAC Outdoor Championship with a first place finish in the 5,000 and 10,000m races. She added another All-Region accolade with a second place finish in the 10,000m to grab a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Over her four years, she would claim 10 MASCAC individual titles between cross country and track and field. She also was named to the All-Region squad six times while earning MASCAC Runner of the Year in 2022 and Rookie of the Year in 2018 for cross country.
Her accomplishments aren't limited to just athletics. She excelled in the classroom as well. She graduated last month with a bachelors degree in math and economics. She also had a concentration in math actuarial sciences to her impressive resume. She finished with a 3.976 GPA and an extensive list of academic honors, including four-time AD 3.0 honor roll, deans list all four years, MASCAC All-Academic eight times, Westfield State Academic Excellence - Department of Mathematics and Department of Economics, 2021 USTFCCCA All-Academic as an individual and team and Chi Alpha Sigma honors.
Outside of her competition and classroom activities, she was a member of the Westfield State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the MASCAC SAAC from 2020-2022.
The MASCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year has been awarded annually since 1980 to a student-athlete who has excelled in both the classroom and field of play while maintaining at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average through their last year of athletic eligibility.
