Three Student-Athletes, Four Teams Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

Jacob DeAndrade of Bridgewater State and William Canty and Amy O'Sullivan of Westfield State received individual academic honors while Bridgewater State women, both Westfield State men and women plus Worcester State women were named team All-Academic honorees.
DeAndrade, who is majoring in management, wrapped up his second year at Bridgewater State with an overall cumulative GPA of 3.62. The Taunton, Massachusetts product ranked 22nd in the 200-meter dash and 36th in the 60-meter dash during the 2019-2020 indoor track & field season.
This marks the second straight year that DeAndrade has earned the honor.
During the winter 2020 indoor track and field season, Canty won the MASCAC 60-meter hurdle title and set a school record in the heptathlon, scoring 4,955 points as he placed second at the New England Division III indoor men's track and field championships. Canty topped his own school-record mark of a year ago by more than 350 points.
He was an All-American outdoors in the decathlon in the spring of 2019. Canty was also a classroom standout as a movement science major, where he carried a 3.33 GPA.
O'Sullivan, a mathematics major, closed out the year with a 3.96 GPA. She finished the indoor season ranked 33rd in Division III in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:43.35 to earn a spot on this year's All-Academic squad.
A total of 802 Division III student-athletes from across the nation earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2019-2020 academic year. To qualify for the all-academic honor, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
Bridgewater State, who along with Westfield State and Worcester State were one of 209 different programs to earn the honor for academic excellence, put together a team cumulative GPA of 3.45. For Westfield State, the men had a cumulative GPA of 3.16 while the women came in at 3.49. Worcester State rounds out the MASCAC team honorees with a 3.44 GPA.
To qualify for the award, teams must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester. This includes all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility.
