CoSIDA Baseball Academic All-District Team
Seniors Casey Boudreau of Westfield State and Kenan Kolanda of Worcester State named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Baseball All-District team as announced by the organization.
With the All-District honors, Boudreau and Kolanda advance to the national ballot for a chance at Academic All-America honors.
Boudreau hit .304 in the Owls abbreviated schedule this season. CoSIDA members selected the teams based on both academic and athletic prowess, and the 2020 team was based off of each player's career performance to date, due to the coronavirus pandemic shortening seasons dramatically.
Boudreau has played in 57 games at Westfield State with a .335 career batting average and 11 doubles, scoring 33 runs and driving in 29. He played in just 10 games due to injuries in 2018, then earned MASCAC All-Conference honors in 2019 while hitting .345.
An education major, Boudreau plans to take advantage of the opportunity to come back to Westfield in 2021 to complete his fourth year of eligibility as the NCAA has extended eligibility for spring sport athletes effected by the pandemic cancelations.
Boudreau is the second Owls' baseball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in the past three seasons. 2018 graduate Alex Lafayette earned all-district and Academic All-America honors.
Kolanda was a two-year captain for the Lancers, batting .274 in his career with 58 runs scored, 42 RBI, and 20 extra base hits. He was selected to the MASCAC Sportsmanship Team in 2019, and is a three-time MASCAC All-Academic Team honoree.
Off the field, Kolanda is a member of Worcester State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Athlete Mentor Program, and volunteers his time with the League League Challenger Division, a division of Little League baseball for children with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Kolanda, a business administration major with a concentration in accounting, is graduating from Worcester State with a cumulative grade point average of 3.76.
For his hard work both on and off the field, Kolanda was named Worcester State's Margaret "Peg" Nugent Male Scholar-Athlete Award recipient during last week's Virtual Awards Week.
Kolanda is the first Lancer to receive the honor from CoSIDA in the 2019-20 academic year. It is the third consecutive year that a Worcester State athlete has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, as Class of 2019 field hockey star Michaila Parent earned the recognition in both 2018 and 2019.
