Worcester State's Parent Named MASCAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year
After a stellar field hockey and athletic career at Worcester State, Michaila Parent was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year which is voted on by the Athletic Directors around the conference.
After a stellar field hockey and athletic career at Worcester State, Michaila Parent was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year which is voted on by the Athletic Directors around the conference.
In her three years as a member of the Lancers field hockey team, Parent etched her name in the Worcester State record books. She is the school's all-time leader in goals (50), assists (37) and total points (137). In 2017, she was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) DIII All-American after registering 21 goals and 15 assists for 57 points which broke the Worcester State single season record for goals, assists and points. She is a three-time Little East All-Conference honoree and earned a spot in the NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star game.
Last Saturday, Parent graduated Summa Cum Laude and received her bachelor's degree in biotechnology with a concentration in pre-pa studies. She finished her studies with a 4.0 GPA. Her education won't stop with Worcester State as she was accepted into the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy Physician's Assistant Program.
She was named CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2018 and All-District in 2019 (the Academic All-American team has not yet been released for this year). She received Little East and MASCAC All-Academic honors in 2016, 17 and 18 while being named the NFHCA DIII Scholar-Athlete in 2017. All six semesters at Worcester State she earned a spot on the Dean's List while taking home the Worcester State "Peg Nugent" Senior Scholar-Athlete award this year.
During her time at Worcester State, Parent was very active in her community. She volunteered with a field hockey developmental clinic, the Worcester State Athlete Mentor Program and with the school's Special Olympics. Off campus, she volunteered with Sherry's Why Me House, St. Bernadette's Church and Steubenville East.
Her junior year, she completed an internship with Dr. Shufflebarger, an orthopedic hand surgeon with UMass. Over the last two years, she has worked as a pharmacy technician at CVS and in customer service with APEX Entertainment.
The MASCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year has been awarded annually since 1980 to a student-athlete who has excelled in both the classroom and field of play while maintaining at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average through their last year of athletic eligibility.
