The Massachusetts Maritime Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the first of two Community Games basketball nights for Special Olympics of Cape Cod on Tuesday evening, as teams from Wareham and Bourne competed in four contests played inside the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.
The Wareham Wild Vikings, Wareham Celtics, Life Changers and Cape Cod Waves took part in the event, and Buccaneer student-athletes Alex Rozak, Kevin Kwedor and Melissa Harris served as referees for all of the games. Each participant also received an NCAA Division III Special Olympics t-shirt with the Buccaneer logo emblazoned on the back.
“It’s an honor for our school and for our department to be a part of this in a very small way, as giving back to the community is a very large part of being a Buccaneer,” Massachusetts Maritime Director of Athletics Bob Corradi said of Tuesday’s event. “We are very proud of our continued involvement with Special Olympics and look forward to playing these games here again next month.”
The Massachusetts Maritime SAAC will host a second Special Olympics Community Games night at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center on Tuesday, February 17th.
