LEOMINSTER, Mass. - The Westfield State Owls women's cross country team has claimed their 13th straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at the conference meet hosted by Fitchburg State. 

The Owls took home the title with 24 points overall while runner-up Worcester State came in second with 57. Bridgewater State landed in third with 63 points followed by Fitchburg State in fourth with 119 points. Coming in fifth was Framingham State with 133 points while Massachusetts Maritime and MCLA closed out the team standings in sixth and seventh with 161 points and 213 points, respectively. 

Westfield State's Jessie Cardin earned her third straight MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year accolade as the top overall individual finisher with a course record 5k time of 17:55. Joining Cardin on the All-Conference team are teammates Ashley Monahan in third (19:38), Lindsay Wassung in fifth (19:48), Andrea Noland in sixth (19:54) and Julie Carroll in ninth (20:25).

Last year's Rookie of the Year Mia Rogers of Worcester State crossed the line in second with a time of 19:15. Elisabeth Olson, along with Rogers, took home All-Conference honors. Olson finished 10th overall with a time of 20:37. 

Led by the 2016 MASCAC Rookie of the Year, Bridgewater State placed three on this year's All-Conference squad. Jenise Madden was the top first time performer to earn Rookie of the Year with a 5k time of 19:40, good enough for third place. Teammates Kristin Grattan and Emily Guyon finished in seventh and eighth with a time of 20:09 and 20:13, respectively. 

Westfield State's Bill Devine was named the 2016 Champion's Choice Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers for leading the Owls to their 13th straight crown.
