WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team came up just short in a furious third period comeback bid, falling to UMass Dartmouth 6-4 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 5-14-2 overall on the season and 3-10-1 in MASCAC play. UMass Dartmouth jumps to 9-10-2 and 8-5-1 in league play.

The Lancers looked all but down and out as they trailed 5-1 entering the third period, but junior Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) scored just over two and a half minutes into the period to cut the deficit to 5-2. Moments later, Drevitch scored again at the 8:26 mark of the period to cut the lead to 5-3. Just three and a half minutes after Drevitch's second of the period, his younger brother Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) redirected a Petr Staif (Zruc-Senec, Czech Republic) point shot home, closing the gap to 5-4.

Worcester State would get no closer however, even despite a power play chance in the final minute, but Dillon Radin would score an empty-net dagger from his own defensive end with seven seconds remaining to close out the victory. The goal was one of three shorthanded goals scored by the Corsairs on the evening.

UMass Dartmouth's Cameron Mack was named the game's number one star after the contest, scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner. Worcester State's Tim Drevitch was the second star with two goals and an assist, while Steven Leonard of UMass Dartmouth tallied two assists to claim third star honors.

In net, the win went to Corsair netminder Chris Stangarone, who made 28 saves. Nevin Tardif (Dunstable, Mass.) entered the game in relief and took the loss as a result of Worcester State's comeback effort. Tardif made 18 saves on 19 shots in just over 30 minutes of action, but conceded Mack's eventual game-winning goal to be officially credited with the loss. Senior Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) got the start in between the pipes, allowing four goals and making 12 saves in just shy of 29 minutes.

Worcester State will return to the rink on Thursday evening with a road trip to Framingham State University. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.
