BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Sophomore Anthony Fortes (East Providence, RI) led five players in double figures with a game high 17 points coming off the bench as the Bridgewater State men's basketball team defeated mistake-prone Western New England College 95-64 Tuesday (Nov. 16) in the season opener for both squads.
Fortes also grabbed eight rebounds for the Bears who led 47-33 at halftime.
Seniors Judah Jackson (Everett, MA) and Samuel Johnson (North Chelmsford, MA) netted 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Western New England College senior forward Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) had 13 points (5-for-6 from the field), seven rebounds, and three steals before fouling out.
Senior guard Kyle Bean (Westhampton, MA) returned to action after missing all but one game last year and had a solid performance with 11 points and five rebounds.
Bridgewater State shot 48.6% from the field and held a 41-36 edge off the boards.
WNEC fired in 38.7% of its field-goal attempts, but committed 30 turnovers (10 more than BSU).
