Lancers Shutout Hawks in 6-0 Victory

Worcester, MA- On Saturday evening, the Worcester State Men's Hockey team was back in action to take on Saint Anselm in a road contest. The Lancers defeated the Hawks in commanding fashion 6-0.

Exactly five minutes into the game, sophomore Martin Dlugolinsky (Stara Lubovna, Slovakia) found the back of the net off a turnover in the Hawks zone to put Worcester State up 1-0. A few minutes later, senior Mikey Wilson (Alexandria, VA.) gave the Lancers a 2-0 lead 9 minutes into the game with a slapshot top shelf past the St. A's goalkeeper Trevor Lally. Sophomore Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) made some key stops to keep the Lancers two goal advantage ten minutes into the first period.  For the remainder of the period, Worcester State outplayed the Hawks, but had to settle for a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.

As the second period began, Worcester State kept the pressure on Saint Anselm, and first year Anders Grongstad (Royal Oak, Michigan) was able to fire the puck into the back of the net off a pass from Wilson to give the Lancers a 3-0 advantage. With 8:20 remaining in the second period, Worcester State went on its first power play but was unsuccessful. The Hawks could not put a shot on goal for the first 13 minutes of the second period. Just before the end of the period, senior Henry Bruckner (Franklin, Mass.) was able to deflect a shot off Lally's facemask to increase the Worcester State lead to 4-0. St. A's was able to provide pressure on the Lancer's defense, but was not able to cut into their four-goal deficit before the third period.

During the start of the third period, Kubik refused to allow the Hawks a chance at a miraculous comeback by making a couple of big saves. Sophomore Brigham Neuhold (Edmond, Okla.) provided the Lancers a 5-0 lead off the third assist of the night from Wilson. A little over a minute after the fifth goal of the night from the Lancers, Dlugolinski scored his second goal of the night to give Worcester State a 6-0 lead. Kubik recorded his first career shutout tonight with a 22-save performance and helped his team to a 6-0 victory.
