Lancers Drop Set to Lasell

Worcester, MA- The Lancer softball team took the field today for their first action since going 8-2 over spring break. They traveled to Lasell University for a Tuesday doubleheader, and though they showed promise in both games, were unable to come up with a win on the day.

Worcester State started off the day giving up six runs in the first two innings, before settling down and shutting out the Lasell Lasers throughout the rest of the game. Unfortunately, the Lancer offense was only able to muster a pair of runs in the sixth innings. LaSell came away with game number one by a score of 6-2.

The night cap provided a bit more drama, with LaSell jumping out to an early 5-0 lead. The Lancers stormed back to pull within one thanks to a string of three innings where they cracked the scoreboard. Sophomore Abigail Koziol ( Lunenburg, MA) headlined the Worcester State offense with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Down 5-4 headed into the seventh, the Lancers showed life as they threatened by getting a baserunner to second. Unable to bring the tying run across, the Lancers fell 5-4.

LaSell now stands at 7-5, while the Lancers fall to 8-4 on the young season. Worcester State (8-4) will take the field for a doubleheader this coming Saturday, with the first game set to start at 4:00 p.m versus Springfield.
