Lancers Grab First Conference Win in 1-0 Victory

Salem, Mass. - Worcester State Field Hockey kicked off their 2022 LEC campaign with a 1-0 away win over Salem State. Just two minutes into the 3rd quarter, Senior midfielder Molly Cutting (Auburn, Mass.) scored the lone goal, assisted by Grace Adams (Leominster, Mass.). 

The match 0-0 into half with the Lancers struggling to find the back of the net for the first two quarters of play. It was one perectly executed corner thoguht that provide Worcester State the only goal they would need on the night as they pushed past Salem State to win their first conference game of the season. Worcester State outshot Salem 30-8 in the game with 22 finding their way on to frame. The Salem defense did a solid job of keepoing the offensive surge at bay to keep it a 1-0 game a the close of regulation. 

The basics: 

FINAL SCORE: Worcester State 1, Salem State 0. Molly Cutting knocked it in off a penalty corner of an assist by Grace Adams.

Adams led the Lancers with six shots on goal, while Laura McVeigh led the Vikings with three. 

Sophomore keeper Madison Ferrara (Somerset, Mass.) recorded six saves on six shots for the shutout win, while Vikings keeper Kaia Hollingsworth  saved 18 of 19 shots. 

 

The Lancers improve to 3-1 overall (1-0, LEC), while Salem falls to 0-2 (0-1, LEC). Catch the Blue & Gold Tuesday night as they host Wellesley at Coughlin Field. Pass back at 7pm.
