Men's Soccer Shuts Out Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over Fitchburg State University on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Eliot Field.

With the victory, Curry improves to 4-1-1 overall on the season.

Curry opened the scoring just a shade over 10 minutes into the contest when sophomore Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) buried a left-footed effort from in close to put the Colonels ahead 1-0. Senior Nick Sailer (Burbank, Calif.) earned an assist on the goal, his first career point in 19 games for the Colonels.

Less than a minute later, Curry stretched the lead to two when Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.) notched his first goal of the season, with Drons earning an assist.

In the second half, Curry continued to pile onto the lead when Drons knocked home his second of the game and 12th of the season off of a Martins feed in the 72nd minute. In the 85th minute, senior defender Richard Savage (Rye, N.Y.) got in on the fun with his first of the year, giving the game its final score of 4-0.

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) earned the shutout with four saves between the pipes for Curry. Three of his four saves came in the second half.

Curry outshot the Falcons by a margin of 29-7 in the contest, including a staggering 22-2 in the opening 45 minutes. The Colonels also let Fitchburg State in corner kicks by a margin of 7-5.

Next up for the Colonels, they will travel into the city to face Wentworth on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
