MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Kristin Santanello (Swampscott, Mass.) and Nicole Bisbee (Templeton, Mass.) scored first half goals that held up as Salem State University field hockey defeated Salve Regina University, 2-1, at rainy Gaudet Field in Middletown, R.I.

The Vikings outshot the Seahawks, 15-4, including limiting the host school to no shots in the first half. Salve Regina's second shot of the second half came courtesy of a penalty stroke opportunity for Michelle Massey (Mendon, Mass.). The senior back squeezed her shot past the right side of sophomore keeper Michaela Boyer (South Hadley, Mass.) to cut the deficit in half.

Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) engineered several long runs late in the second half but only managed one shot for her work.

Salem State doubled Salve Regina in penalty corners (8-to-4) which featured Lauren DiCredico (Tewksbury, Mass.) setting passes to Santanello. The junior midfielder created several shot opportunities, but Salve Regina held the visitors scoreless in the second half.

The win evened the all-time series at 4-4 with the Vikings taking the last four meetings.

Salve Regina (2-1) hosts Simmons College at the Lawrence Avenue field on Saturday (1 p.m.) while Salem State travels to Fitchburg State for a 10 a.m. contest.
