Volleyball Routs Framingham State in Non-Conference Action

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.  (September 8, 2022) – The Western New England women's volleyball team won their third straight game after defeating the Framingham State Rams on the road, three sets to none.

Records:

  • Western New England: 4-2
  • Framingham State: 4-1

How It Happened: The first set of three was a battle. The Golden Bears gave Framingham St. their first point by serving it into the net, but a kill by Sarah Scott had the match back at 1-1. the two opponents exchanged a series of five kills back and forth over the net. The score continuously being tied up. Western New England took a lead after three kills in a row, but an attack error brought it back within two. WNE put a couple more down on the other side of the net and increased their lead to 11-6. The Golden Bears let the Rams creep back into the set by giving up a service error, allowing them to bring the score within one, 11-10. It was a one-point set until Framingham tied it back up at 18-18, and then took the lead. It was the Golden Bears who were now fighting to come back from being down. The Rams had a 22-20 lead. WNE dominated the end of the set with Scott putting kills down and Zoe Bozzay getting service aces for WNE to take back the game and close out the set on top 25-22 to the Rams.

Set two began with Rams hitting the scoreboard first. Unlike the first set, Framingham held on to their lead for a while. The Golden Bears started the set trailing by two points and continued to keep getting down by two majority of the set. A service ace from Becca Mayer and two kills from Scott finally gave WNE a game lead of 14-13. At this point, the flow of the set seemed to change where Framingham was fighting to come back. The Golden Bears would go up a couple of points and the Rams were fighting to tie it up or take the advantage. They had the Golden Bears within one at 18-17, but again, WNE dominating the end of the set, did not let the Rams score again. They concluded the set with seven straight points with four kills, two service aces, and only one error from the other team.

Again, the set started with Framingham scoring first. More like the first set, the scoring plays went back and forth with the points being even. It wasn't until the score was even at 10 that the Golden Bears took over the remainder of the game. They took a three-point lead that Framingham couldn't close the gap on. The Golden Bears picked up their lead to six at 21-15. The Rams fought back but one too many errors cost them the end of the set, and the Golden Bears won the game in another three straight sets.
