Golden Bears Down Lancers in Three

Worcester, MA- The Lancers hosted Western New England this evening in the first batch of homecoming games of the weekend. The Lancers were coming off a tight battle from Keene St. on Tuesday night. Worcester State played it strong, before ultimately falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-20).

The first set saw a tight match with 12 tie scores in the set and 4 lead changes between the two programs.  First year Cassandra Millea (Orange, CT) led Worcester State with nine total attacks in the set just one ahead of senior Gabby Alberghini (Northboro, MA). Junior Camryn Burgio (Quincy, MA) was steady on her digs, with a total of five in the first. Ultimately a last service rally by Western New England pushed them just head of the Lancers for the first set win.

The second set saw the Golden Bears charge ahead on the seven errors of the Lancers in the set. First year Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, MA) was a shining force for Worcester State with six total attacks in the set that ultimately saw the team fall 9-25 to Western New England.

The final set brought Worcester State back into rhythm and close on the heels all match to Western New England. The tie came late in the third set, where it looked like Worcester State was going to force a fourth set on the night. The Golden Bears managed to put a number of quick strikes together to maintain the lead and close out the set 25-20 for the set and match.

Burgio ended the night with 3 kills, 1 service ace and 12 digs on the night, while Millea had 4 kills, 1 service ace and 6 digs in the game.

Worcester State now sits at 1-11 on the season, while the Golden Bears now sit at 10-4. The Lancers are back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Fitchburg State for a conference matchup.
