Panthers blank Seahawks at Plymouth State Men's Ice Hockey Invitational, 9-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Andrew Stewart (O'Leary, PEI) and sophomores Kyle Greco (Hillside, Ill.) and Kyle Ross (Fall River, N.S.) scored two goals apiece Thursday afternoon as Plymouth State University rolled past Salve Regina University, 9-0, in the first game of the PSU Men's Hockey Invitational at Hanaway Rink.

Freshman goalie Jack Ingerson (Concord, N.H.) stopped all 19 shots he faced to record the shutout in his first career start. The Panthers scored three goals in each period and went on to extend their winning streak to five and their unbeaten streak to seven (5-0-2).

The Panthers (6-1-2 overall) will advance to Friday's championship game at 4:00 p.m. to face the University of New England. Salve (Regina 1-8-1) will meet Becker College in the consolation contest at 1:00 p.m.

Stewart and sophomore Richie Zobak (Evergreen Park, Ill.) scored for PSU less than a minute apart early in the opening period to stake the Panthers to an early lead. Junior Bryan Kriner (Newport, R.I.) made it 3-0 with a goal with a minute to go in the period.

Senior David Rose (Haddonfield, N.J.) extended the margin to 4-0 at the 12:24 mark of the second frame, and Greco scored on the power play two minutes later to make it a 5-0 game. Greco tallied his second of the game with a minute to go in the period to put the hosts up 6-0 after two.

Stewart's second goal of the game five minutes into the third period extended the margin, and Ross, making his first appearance of the season, rounded out the scoring with the final two goals, the second coming on the power play. Ross scored one goal in 18 games last year.

PSU finished with a 31-19 advantage in shots. Ingerson made 10 of his 19 saves in the middle period. Newcomer Mike McDonald (Whitby, Ontario) and freshman Ernest Ross (Rochester, N.H.) shared duties in the Seahawks goal.
