BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team fell to Massachusetts Maritime Academy 11-5 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Hendy Field.

With the defeat, Curry drops to 0-2 overall on the young season.

Curry opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from sophomore Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.), driving home graduate student Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) to give the Colonels an early 1-0 lead.

The Buccaneers scored a pair in the second and another in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, but the Colonels put up a four-spot in the top of the fifth to jump in front 5-3. Junior Joan Peralta (Brownsville, N.Y.) started off the rally, tying the score with a two-run single. Curry took a lead on an RBI single from James Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.), and padded the lead with an RBI fielder's choice from George Calderon (New York, N.Y.).

The offense went quiet for the rest of the afternoon however, and Mass. Maritime took over. The Buccaneers scored one in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4, before breaking the game open with seven in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.

On the hill, sophomore Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss despite allowing no earned runs over 1.2 relief innings. In his first collegiate outing, freshman Colin Botelho (Taunton, Mass.) looked strong with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Graduate student Jhonathan Oliveira (Peabody, Mass.) was the only Colonel to record multiple hits on the day, despite entering the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

Next up for the Colonels, they will open their Spring Break trip on Saturday with a twinbill against St. Norbert College in Auburndale, Fla.
