Lancers Battle to A Draw Against Falcons

Worcester, Mass. - The Lancers & Falcons faced off in MASCAC action Thursday evening in Fitchburg. Worcester's comeback in the third period to tie the game eventually led both sides to a stalemate in overtime.

Fitchburg opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the first period when Hunter Fortin connected with Rece Bergeman, followed by a power-play opportunity which saw Antoine Gignac fire in the net to put the Falcons up 2-0 12 minutes in. Gignac's goal was assisted by Michael Macchioni & Gene Bouthiette. Worcester would respond late in the period with a goal from Senior forward Brendan Ronan (Saugus, Mass.), with assistance from Junior forward Deiter Stange (Niles, Ill.). 

Heading into the second period, Gignac scored his second of the game in just under a minute of play, with assistance from Wyatt Wilmshurst & Joshua Miller. Fitchburg would hold onto their 3-1 lead for the remainder of the period and into the first seven minutes of the third, when Worcester's Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, NJ) kickstarted the comeback with his third goal of the season, followed by a goal from Sophomore defender Cody Porcello (Melrose, Mass.), with aid from Junior forward Drew Eid (Gorham, ME), to tie the game at 3-3. The score would remain at three apiece right up until the clock marked the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime. A scoreless overtime period ultimately led to a draw for the Lancers and Falcons.

 

Graduate defender Henry Bruckner (Franklin, Mass.) led Worcester with seven shots on goal, while Fortin, Wilmshurst & Bergeman each recorded five for the Falcons. 

 

Sophomore goaltender Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Rep.) recorded 37 saves for the Lancers on 40 shots on net, while Fitchburg's Max Macchioni saved 51 out of 54. 

 

This brings the Lancers to 9-8-1 (8-3-1, MASCAC) on the season, while the Falcons go to 8-7-3(6-3-3, MASCAC).
