Lancers' Volleyball Secure Second Win in Two Days

The Lancers hosted Anna Maria College earlier this evening in mid-week non-conference play, as they attempted to keep the momentum going from yesterday's win over MCLA. And carry that momentum they did, as the Lancers controlled the match right from the start and did not allow the Amcats of Anna Maria much of a chance, sweeping them three sets to none on head coach Bernie Chase's birthday.

Worcester State came out hot in the first set, getting off to an early 1-0 lead and not falling behind for the entirety of the rest of the set. They would go on to take the night's opener by a score of 25-22.

The Lancers really flexed their muscles in the second set, coming out on top 25-18, their largest margin of the night. The Amcats fell behind by seven points at one point, as Worcester State was able to completely control the set to put themselves in great position to close out the match in the final set.

That task would prove somewhat difficult however, as Anna Maria rallied in the final set of the evening. They played Worcester State close, keeping themselves in striking distance throughout the set. The score was deadlocked at 22 and it seemed like the Amcats might just force a fourth set, but the Lancers held strong and scored three straight points to secure the match sweep.

Worcester State was led on offense by senior Gabby Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.), who led the team with an astounding 23 total attacks, while the team leading 22 digs from fellow senior Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass.) led the teams stellar defensive effort.

The Lancers will look to extend their winning streak to three in just two days' time when they host Mass Maritime Academy in conference play. Worcester State will head into that match at 3-1 in the MASCAC, and 5-17 overall. Anna Maria leaves Brissette Court with a record of 3-12.
