Lancers Drop Back and Forth Battle to Corsairs

Worcester, MA- On Saturday evening, the Worcester State Men's Hockey team was back in action to take on Mass-Dartmouth. The Lancers were defeated by the Corsairs 4-3.

Worcester State headed into this road contest hoping to impose its will on Mass-Dartmouth. The Lancers could not capitalize on a power play opportunity within the first five minutes. UMass-Dartmouth could capitalize off the power play when Sky Silverstein scored under 13:30 to play, to provide the Corsairs a 1-0 advantage. The Lancers responded by scoring right after the UMass-Dartmouth power play to tie the game 1-1 off a rebound shot by senior Brendan Ronan (Saugus, Mass.). With under 25 seconds remaining in the first period, junior Jason Lee (Thousand Oaks, CA) was able to rocket a shot just inside the blue line to provide Worcester State a 2-1 advantage heading into the first intermission.

Heading into the second period, Worcester State tried to carry over the momentum they received from the end of the first period. The Lancers had a great scoring chance in the first minute, but were denied by goalie Daniel Davidson.  Tyler Stewart was able to tie the game at two apiece as he made some nice moves through the Lancer's defense. Then out of nowhere, senior Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) scored a short-handed goal to provide Worcester State a 3-2 lead with under six minutes remaining. Immediately after Worcester State took the lead, Mass-Dartmouth"s Kevin Johnston found the back of the net to tie the game 3-3. Sophomore Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic.) made just enough stops to ensure the score remained 3-3 heading into the second intermission.

As the game headed into the third period, both teams were determined to obtain a big MASCAC win. Thirty-four seconds into the period, Worcester State was able to go on a power play, but was not successful. UMass-Dartmouth was able to go on a power play a  minute later, but the Lancers were able to kill it off. With about ten minutes remaining in regulation, Stewart scored his second goal of the night to provide the Corsairs a 4-3 lead. With under five minutes remaining, the Lancers went on a power play hoping to tie the game. Unfortunately for Worcester State, Davidson stood firm in net as he protected the Corsairs one goal lead. Davidson made a nice glove save as the horn sounded that provided the Corsairs a 4-3 conference victory.
