Women's Volleyball Dropped Twice at NVU Johnson Tri-Match

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Curry College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of defeats on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tri-match at Carter Gym. Curry fell 3-2 to Salem State University to start the day, before falling 3-1 to the hosts from Northern Vermont University Johnson.

Set scores for both matches were not available at time of press. 

Senior Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) looked sharp for Curry in the first match of the day against Salem State, leading the team with 18 kills, while freshman Sonja Matheson (Voluntown, Conn.) turned in 15 of her own. Both Colonels turned in double-doubles on the day with Matheson posting 15 digs and Guzman posting 12 digs. 

Junior libero Avia Fraine (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was Curry's leader defensively with an impressive 21 digs.

Against the host Badgers, Guzman and Matheson against led the way for the Colonel offensive with nine kills apiece. Guzman also finished the match with 13 digs, finishing a kill shy of her second double-double of the day.

Curry will be back in action on Tuesday, opening Commonwealth Coast Conference play on the road at Roger Williams, finally ending the team's 11-match, season-opening road trip. First serve from Bristol, R.I. is slated for 6 p.m.
