FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Worcester State University softball team was shut down by Framingham State University in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field. The Rams closed out the regular season by defeating Worcester State by scores of 8-0 in six innings and 5-0.
Worcester State drops to 9-16-1 with the losses, while Framingham State moves to 28-6.
Game 1 - Framingham State 8, Worcester State 0 (6 innings)
In the opener, the Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double off the bat of Gwendolyn Carpenter and an RBI triple from Camille Desrochers.
The Rams had runners on the corners in the bottom of the third when Desrochers scored from third on a wild pitch for the 3-0 lead.
The Rams added two more in the fourth on an RBI double to deep center from Kelsey McGuill and Carpenter's second RBI single of the game.
The Rams closed the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a three run bomb to left off the bat of Caitlin McCarthy.
Ally Moran tossed a complete game one hitter for the Rams to earn her 12th victory of the season in the circle. Moran struck out four and walked two in the shutout.
Emily Bartlett (Lowell, Mass.) took the loss for the Lancers going four innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts.
Game 2 - Framingham State 5, Worcester State 0
In game two, the Rams plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Laela Pepin drove in the first with a single to center, and Shannon Ward followed with an RBI single to left. Zoe Smyth plated the final two on a double down the left field line.
Desrochers tied the FSU single-season home run record when she led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer to left pushing the lead to 5-0.
Ward earned the complete game shutout victory in the circle picking up her 13th win of the season. Ward struck out six while walking none and allowing just two hits.
Jen Thorburn (Groton, Mass.) took the loss for the Lancers, going six innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.
