Worcester State Falls to Clark

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Soccer team faced off against Clark University on a hot Saturday afternoon on the turf at Clark University.

The game went back and forth through most of the start of the first half before Clarks' Mia Advocate sent one past Worcester State's Mallory Dupuis to put the cougars up 1-0 on the afternoon. Worcester State attempted to answer right back but got bogged down in a midfield battle before Clark was able to push it in the Worcester defensive end and capturing a corner kick. Clarks' Cassandra Trevino sent the ball deep into the middle of the box to Jamie Stern who knocked the ball past the swarm of defenders for the second goal of the game. Worcester State Raelyn Callahan tried to find her own answer, but Clark's Anabella White was there to smother the ball and stall the offensive momentum. Clark knocked in one last goal in the first half before Worcester State was able to settle and regain on offensive push. In the 35' minute Worcester Haley Mignon attempted to get one past White but was blocked on the attempt. Erin Condon made her own attempt near the end of the half but the ball traveled just wide of the cage. Clark had a late surge in the final moments but the Lancer defense held strong to push the 3-0 score to halftime.

The second half saw a strong defensive performance by Worcester State, who were outshot 16-3 still managed to keep the Cougars scoreless in the second the 66' minute. The Lancers found their rhythm all through the second half and worked as a unit to shut down potential threats and closed out the half with just the one lone goal allowed. Dupuis recorded three saves in the game while Callahan led the team with two shots on goal for the Lancers.

Worcester State falls to 0-2 while Clark moves to 1-1 on the season. The Lancers will be back in action Friday when they host their home opener versus WPI at 7pm.
