Men’s Basketball Falls to Framingham in Home Opener

MILTON, Mass - Curry College Men's Basketball fell to non-conference opponent Framingham State University Thursday evening in their home opener in Katz Gymnasium. 

With the loss, the Colonels continue with an overall record of 0-2. 

The visiting Rams charged forth in the opening five minutes to take a quick 10-5 lead. A quick three-pointer from Curry's Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) brought the Colonels right back into the action. A Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) three as well as three successful free throws from Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) tied the contest at 20 with under nine minutes left in the half. 

Following a Curry College timeout, the Colonels regained the lead on a Derrick Thomas Jr. (Fitchburg, Mass.) three-pointer. A 15-5 scoring run by the visiting Rams in the remaining five minutes sent the two sides into the halftime break with Framingham in the lead, 40-32.

The visiting Framingham State Rams held their momentum heading into the second half, marking a 17-3 scoring run with 11:16 remaining in the second half. Curry's Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) and Frankie Santiago Jr. (New Britain, Conn.) quickly brought the Colonels back into the action on a pair of shots from the field. The Rams would hold defensively, stopping the Colonels from threatening their lead through the remainder of the second half, sealing the 73-61 victory for Framingham State. 

The Colonels were led by senior guard Angelo Sardegna (18 points, 2 rebounds), Derrick Thomas Jr. (8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), and Lowelle Torres (10 points, 6 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Saturday as they travel to face Fisher College at 1 PM.
