Lancers Drop Two T0 Rams

WORCESTER, MA- Coming off of a thrilling walk off victory and a split to Nichols college, the Lancers went on the road for a double header against Framingham State on their Senior Day.

 

Worcester State started the game hot as in the top of the first inning after sophomore Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) singled to begin the game, senior Rachel Sinclair (Westminster, MA) drove in the game's first run with an RBI groundout to give the Lancers an early 1-0 lead.  The Lancers great hitting continued as in the top of the third inning they got an RBI single from freshman Emma LaPoint (Westfield, MA) to extend the lead to 2-0.

 

Framingham State didn't go away quietly however as in the bottom of the fourth inning they were able to tie the game on an RBI single by Talia Duca and a sacrifice fly by Kelsey McGuill to make the score 2-2.  In the bottom of the fifth inning Framingham would take the lead on an RBI double by Camille Desrochers to make the score 3-2.  Framingham grabbed some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as an RBI single by Angelina Lynch, Keely Scotia scoring on a passed ball and Angelina Lynch scoring on a wild pitch extended their lead to 6-2.  Worcester State couldn't get anything going in the top of the seventh inning as they lose Game 1 of the double header 6-2.

 

Sophomore Sarah Gosselin (Charlton, MA) started the game for the Lancers as she went 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs and striking out 5, junior Emily Bartlett (Lowell, MA) pitched 0.1 innings allowing 2 runs, and senior Jen Thorburn (Groton, MA) pitched the final 0.2 innings allowing 0 runs.

 

Game 2

 

Unlike Game 1, Game 2 was a pitchers duel throughout.  Jen Thorburn for Worcester State and Olyvia Mendonca for Framingham State held the bats at bay for 5 scoreless innings.  However, Framingham State broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning as Brooke Grassia and Camille Derochers hit RBI singles off of Thorburn to give Framingham State a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning.  In the top of the seventh  Freshman Bella Gasbarro (Leonminster, MA) doubled to put a runner in scoring position, however the game ended on a fly out to center field by Rachel Sinclair as the Lancers got shutout in Game 2 with the final score of 2-0.  

                                                                             

With these two losses Worcester State drops to 20-14 on the season.  The next game for the Lancers is back home as they play a double header against Gordon college on April 25th starting at 4pm.
