Worcester Drops Two in Saturday Battle

Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted a tri-match today. To start off the day Worcester State faced Framingham State in a non-conference match then St. Joseph's College of Maine took on Framingham State in Match 2 and the day concluded with St. Joe's taking on the Lancers. 

In the first match of the day against Framingham State the Lancers went to a fifth set against the defending MASCAC Champions. Scores were 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 24-26, and 7-15. Junior Maeve Cadogan had 13 kills. Sophomore Angela Colonis had 16 assists, 4 aces and 13 digs. Senior Camryn Burgio had 22 digs. Sophomore Megan Bardis had 16 assists and 3 aces, and Freshman Cassandra Millea went for 31 digs and 4 aces. For the visiting Rams Isabel Henwood had 32 assists and 19 digs. Hailey Sanders went for 14 kills. Anna Szymanski had 19 kills.Framingham improved to 6-3 on the season while Worcester State fell to 1-8 overall.

 

The middle match saw St. Joseph's College of Maine defeat Framingham State three sets to two. Set scores went as follows: First) Monks 25-18, Second) Framingham 25-14, Third) Monks 25-23, Fourth) Framingham 25-18, and Fifth) St. Joseph's 15-13. Monks' highlights were Maggie Sylvester with 16 kills, Hanna Holden with 35 assists, Victoria Briones had 10 kills and 25 digs, and Sam Holland had 27 digs. Rams' highlights came from Isabel Henwood with 17 digs and 29 assists, Malia Shields 25 digs, Avery Predham 2 kills along with 11 total attacks, and Anna Szymanski 13 kills and 52 attacks. St. Joe's is now 3-7 on the year. Framingham is now 6-4 on the season, and will return to action on Tuesday 9/20 at home vs. Northern Vermont-Lyndon at 7pm.

 

In the last match of the day against St. Joseph's the Lancers won the first set but dropped the next three (25-16, 19-25, 18-25, 18-25). For Worcester State Angela Colonis led with 18 assists. Cassandra Millea was team leader with 19 digs. Emily Dardinski led with 9 kills and Gabby Alberghini contributed 8 kills. Camryn Burgio had 35 total attacks for the Lancers. For the Monks Maggie Sylvester had 8 kills and 25 total attacks. Hanna Holden led with 16 assists and 15 digs. Victoria Briones had 8 kills and 31 total attacks. Nadia Sixto had 25 total attacks. Sam Holland led her team with 16 digs.

 

Worcester State moves to 1-9 overall on the season. St. Joseph's now sits at 4-7.

 

The Lancers return to action on Tuesday September 20 at 7pm at Keene State College.
