Women's Basketball Clips Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Curry College women's basketball team knocked off Fitchburg State University by a final score of 70-63 Thursday evening in non-conference action at Parkinson Gymnasium.

With the victory, Curry stays perfect on the season, advancing to 2-0 overall.

The Colonels came out fast in the first quarter, scoring 22 points in the period to take a 22-17 advantage at the end of one. Sophomore point guard Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) scored 11 points in the frame to lead all players, which included a mark of 7-for-9 from the free throw line.

Curry went to the half ahead by five points at 37-32 as both teams scored 15 points in the second quarter. Senior Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) paced the visitors with six points and five rebounds in the quarter.

Fitchburg State took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter after outscoring Curry 20-14 in the third. Dunn, McCarthy, and senior Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) each tied for the team-high with four points in the period.

The Colonels ran away with the contest in the fourth, holding the hosts to just 11 points while scoring 19 of their own to come away with the road victory. McCarthy paced Curry with seven points down the stretch en route to the victory.

McCarthy finished as the contest's leading scorer, notching a career-high 22 points in the win. Dunn had a strong night on both ends of the floor, recording 14 points and a career-best 17 rebounds. Remillard and freshman Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) each notched 13 points for Curry.

Next up for Curry, they will travel to Colby-Sawyer College for a non-conference battle with the Chargers on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
