Lancers Drop Mid-week Battle to Wolves

Lancers Drop Mid-week Battle to Wolves

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Soccer team traveled to Western Connecticut Wednesday night for an out of conference night game as they looked to continue their momentum and grab a win over the Wolves.

The Wolves got ahead early as Suzana Imetovski assisted Myah Croze on a trick corner play in the fourth minute. Western Connecticut's Kyla Norton later sent a ball to Adriana Alfano for her second goal of the season. Just two minutes later they scored again, this time a corner straight into the back of the net by Croze. The Lancers reorganized and found their rhythm to hold the Wolves off for the remaining half hour of the half. First year midfielder Amanda Cosco (Watertown, MA) had a couple good shots to test the keeper that were unfortunately blocked away without meeting the back of the net. First year center back Julianne Earnest (Columbia, CT) held the defensive line and stopped Western Connecticut's forwards from running down the field.

The Wolves came out strong again, to start the second half, and Croze scored her third goal of the game in the fifth minute of the second half. Lancer keeper sophomore Mallory Dupuis (Leominster, MA) continued fighting and had several solid saves. Western Connecticut's Adriana Alfano scored unassisted in the 65th minute to extend the Wolves lead. Worcester then had five consecutive shots before the Wolves put in their last one, a ball from Olivia Kotsaftis to Mackenzie Sam.

Worcester State (1-6-2, 1-2) moves onto another road game, this time in a return to conference at MCLA on Friday night at 6pm.
