Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (4-5, 3-0) faced off against the Framingham State Rams (4-4, 2-1) in a massive MASCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.

It was a quick start for Worcester as senior forward Grace Adams (Leominster, Mass.) scored three minutes into the game off a deflected pass by junior forward Natalya Morin (Barre, Mass.). Just two minutes later, her teammate senior Zoe Athanasopoulos (Hopedale, Mass.) found the net to make it 2-0 off an assist from Adams.

Adams found herself on the scoreboard once again in the 18' to make it a 3-0 game with sophomore midfielder Charlotte MacGregor (Bellingham, Mass.) making it happen. 

The defense was solid, holding a shutout until the 20' when the Rams Kaylee Beck put her team on the board with an unassisted goal after intercepting a pass in the Lancers defensive end and quickly converting the possession to a goal.

Worcester responded quickly, as six minutes passed when Morin added another goal to the score after corralling the ball off the goalies pad, to go along with her assist, putting Worcester up 4-1.

Adams once again added to her score tally in the 28', assisted by Morin for her second assist of the evening, pulling the Lancers ahead 5-1. 

At the start of the third quarter, Framingham State's Brandi Core countered with a quick response off a deflected shot over junior goalkeeper Madison Ferrara (Somerville, MA), getting the Rams their second one of the night making the contest 5-2. Isabella Kondi scored on a shot 12 minutes later, bringing the score 5-3 in a comeback rally attempt to try and steal this conference game back. 

Athanasopoulos would not let it happen on her watch, scoring her second of the night on a ball from Grace Adams to push the lead to 6-3. The final quarter of action was a more silent quarter for scoring, even as Framingham was forced to play the entire quarter down a player after a red card was awarded between the quarters. A green card just above a minute into the fourth, saw the advantage go 11-9 for the Lancers for two minutes, but the Rams defense held strong, keeping Worcester State from adding to their tally. 

Worcester State outshot the Rams 15-9 in the match, while Framingham won the corner battle, grabbing 11 to the Lancers 4.

With the win, the Lancers improve to (5-5) (4-0) while Framingham St. drops to (4-5) (2-2)

Worcester State's next opponent will be against the Southern Maine Huskies in a Pink Out Game where the team will partner with Rosen Cancer Awareness to bring a spotlight for cancer awareness and funding. The game will be Wednesday, October 4 with a 7 p.m. start.
