Women's Lacrosse Slides by Bridgewater State in Overtime

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Junior Hannah Nolan (Pepperell, Mass.) scored 4:19 into overtime on Sunday evening to lift the Worcester State University women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference action at Swenson Field.

With the win, Worcester State stays unbeaten at 2-0 on the season, while Bridgewater State drops to 0-2.

After falling behind 1-0 just over five minutes into the contest, the Lancers ripped off three straight tallies to take a 3-1 lead. Shea Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.) opened the scoring for Worcester State, followed by Nolan's first of the day, and the first goal of the season for Emily Pavoni (Granby, Mass.). The Bears, however, would score four straight goals in a span of 6:59 to close out the half and head to the break on top 5-3.

Worcester State jumped back on top with three straight goals to open the second half, two from the stick of senior Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.) and the first collegiate goal from freshman Jessica McKenzie (Mendon, Mass.).

The teams traded goals down the stretch, with Lancer goals coming from Hill, Jarvis, and Abby Magnuson (Ellington, Conn.), setting up an overtime knotted at 9-9.

Both netminders had a key save in the extra session, but it was Nolan who put the game to rest. With Magnuson in possession of the ball behind the net, Nolan found a seam right in front of the crease. Magnuson put a perfect pass onto Nolan's stick, and the junior buried it to seal the victory for Worcester State.

Worcester State goaltender Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) made nine saves to pick up her second victory of the season.

Next up, Worcester State will head to Salem State next Saturday, April 3 to take on the Vikings at noon.
