NEWPORT, R.I. (January 4, 2020) - Salve Regina University sophomore Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.) scored a season-high 34 points on 14-of-19 from the floor, including four 3 pointers, to lead the Seahawks over visiting Lancers of Worcester State University, 86-69, at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

The leading scorer for the Seahawks (3-8) finished with a double-double as he added a game-high 10 rebounds. Salve Regina dominated the boards, 47-19, including 14 on the offensive glass which contributed to 10 second-chance points. The Lancers (3-8) were led by junior guard Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) who scored 21 points on seven-of-16 from the floor with two from behind the arc.

Salve Regina now leads the all-time series with Worcester State, 8-4, and has won the last three meetings including the most recent two against former Seahawk assistant and current Lancer head coach, Tyler Hundley. In last year's meeting in Worcester, Mass., Spencer sank a buzzer-beating corner 3-pointer for an 82-81 final.

In the first half today, Spencer had 10 field goals (two treys) and 24 points as the Seahawks led by as many as 15 points before going into the break up 14 (46-32). The Seahawks scored nearly half their points (22) in the paint.

Junior captain Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn.) came off the bench to contribute 21 points with an efficient eight-for-11 from the field and five-for-five from the line. The Lancers trailed by nine (56-47 under 12 minutes remaining) before a 10-run included 3-pointers from sophomore Tyler Spencer (Pembroke, Mass.) and Cardoso. Collins and Cardoso exchanged baskets as Worcester State held a one-point lead for combined 50 seconds.

Junior guard Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) made four free throws and a 3-pointer during a 21-7 Seahawk run from 8:02 to 2:33 that put Salve Regina ahead by 13 (79-66); that was all the scoring Kelly had in the game (seven points). Graduate student Tyler Benjamin (Fitchburg, Mass.) started and finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Salve Regina ends a four-game losing skid where three of those defeats came in overtime including the last two at home. The Seahawks go on the road to Boston to play a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest against Wentworth Institute of Technology on January 9.
