Gutierrez and Blomgren’s Big Night in Fitchburg Brings Conference Win to Worcester

Worcester, MA- After capturing their first conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Worcester State Women's Basketball team traveled to Fitchburg State tonight, looking to take down the Falcons and get a win streak going.

An offensive explosion more than did the trick for the Lancers on this Wednesday evening. A trio of Worcester State hoopers found themselves with double-digit points at the end of the night. The team scoring was led by senior Madison Gutierrez (Holyoke, Mass.), who put up 14 off coming off the bench while junior Nyah Thomas (Attleboro, Mass.) scored 12 and graduate student Sarah Blomgren (Lunenburg, Mass.) had a big night, completing the double-double with 10 boards to accompany her 10 points.

When all was said and done Worcester State came away with a 66-34 win. Their second straight victory, they have now pulled their conference record up to .500, and their season record to 6-11. Fitchburg State is now 3-13 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

The WSU women's team will get back on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they hit the road to take on MCLA in yet another MASCAC battle.
