Worcester Extend Winning Streak to Four with Double Victories over the Amcats

WORCESTER, MA- Coming off of a double header win just yesterday, the Worcester State Lancers were looking to continue their momentum against Anna Maria in the Monday Night battle.

 

Worcester State had the bats working early as in the bottom of the second inning sophomore Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) hit an RBI single and first year Jayden Kelly (Tyngsboro, MA) hit an RBI groundout that made the score 2-0.  In the bottom of the third inning the bats stayed hot as Worcester State put up 4 runs on the scoreboard with three RBI singles from sophomore Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, MA), freshman Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA), and freshman Bailey Tammaro (Fitchburg, MA) as well as a sacrifice fly from Jayden Kelly to make the Lancers lead 6-0.

 

Anna Maria put up a run in the top of the fourth inning to cut it to 6-1, but Worcester State continued to score in the bottom of the fourth as freshman Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) hit an RBI single and Gasbarro hit an RBI double to push the score to 8-1 which ended up being the final score.

 

Junior Emily Bartlett (Lowell, MA) was the winning pitcher for Worcester State as she pitched 3 shutout innings with 4 strikeouts.  Sophomore Sarah Gosselin closed out the game with 4 innings allowing 1 run and struck out 4 batters.  Bella Gasbarro had a great performance at the plate as well going 3-4 with 2 RBIs in the win.

 

GAME 2

 

After winning the first game, Worcester State was ready to continue their winning ways in the second game of their double header vs Anna Maria.

 

The Lancers hot hitting continued in the second game as in the bottom of the first inning Koziol hit an RBI single to give Worcester State an early 1-0 lead.  Anna Maria bounced back however as in the top of the third inning they hit an RBI double to put Worcester State down 2-1.  That lead didn't last long however as in the bottom of the third inning Abigail Koziol unloaded on a homerun to dead center field to give Worcester State the lead 3-2.  

 

The hit parade continued as in the bottom of the fourth inning Emma Lanpher hit a two RBI single to increase the lead to 5-2.  In the bottom of the fifth inning Worcester State went on another score barrage as senior Naraylee Baez (Northborough, MA) hit an RBI single, freshman Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) hit a sac fly, and senior Rachel Sinclair (Westminster, MA) hit a two RBI double to end the game 10-2 after 5 innings. 

 

With these two wins Worcester State improves their record to 14-8 on the season as Anna Maria falls to 5-14.

 

The Lancers next game is Friday April 7th at 3pm as they go on the road to face off against  MCLA in a double header and hope to continue their winning streak.
