Worcester Falls to Dartmouth in Three

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers made their way to the Tripp Athletic Center at UMass-Dartmouth this evening to take on the Corsairs in non-conference volleyball action. UMass-Dartmouth held complete control throughout the evening, sweeping the Lancers three sets to none, never trailing in a set.

The Lancers effort was led in large part by their leading attacker and defender Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass) who finished the night with 22 total attacks and 16 digs. Unfortunately, the Corsairs squad had a bigtime showing as two of their players compiled double digits kills, and UMass-Dartmouth controlled the defensive side of the ball recording 67 digs while the Lancers finished with only 48.

The first set saw the Lancers fall behind early. Once they went down 1-7, they would never pull back within five points ultimately dropping the opener 16-25. The second set would regrettably follow a similar tone, with the Lancers attempting to play catch up as the Corsairs came away with a 10 point victory, 15-25. The night would come to an end in the third set, with the Lancers only putting up 13 as UMass-Dartmouth completed the sweep with a statement 13-25 victory.

This latest loss brings the Lancer volleyball team to a 3-14 record on the year, while UMass-Dartmouth comes out of the evenings battle 11-5. The Lancers will be put to the test once again Thursday night against cross-town rivals Clark University who will head into that match at 9-8.
