Lancers Secure Big Conference Win at Castleton

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Field Hockey team made journeyed up to Castleton State in Vermont this evening, attempting to come back with a big conference win. They were successful in their quest as they took down the Spartans by a score of 4-2.

Much of the game was played in a cat-and-mouse style, as throughout the majority of the playing time it seemed neither the Lancers nor the Spartans would be able to pull away from each other. Castleton got the scoring started early on in the first quarter, but less than nine minutes later Molly Cutting (Auburn, Mass.) put one into the back of the net to even up the score at one a piece.

With the score tied at 1-1, Castleton would control much of the second quarter, more than doubling Worcester State in shots for the quarter. That wouldn't stop the Lancers though, as it only took one off the stick of Grace Adams (Leominster, Mass.) with an assist from Karalyn Jones (Wilbraham, Mass.) to put them on top heading into the half.

The Spartans evened it up very early into the third quarter with a goal just a couple minutes in, but the Lancers would reclaim the lead just a few minutes after that when Zoe Athanasopoulos (Hopedale, Mass.) put a Charlotte MacGregor (Bellingham, Mass.) assist past the Castleton goalie. Minutes later Grace Adams would net her second goal of the game with helpful dish from a Natalya Morin (Barre, Mass.).

The Lancers would not surrender the lead from that point on, holding the 4-2 lead up until the clock hit zero, securing their sixth conference win and ninth overall. Castleton comes out of the evening 5-2 in conference, 7-6 overall. Worcester State will be back in action Thursday night at home when they host Endicott in non-conference action.
