Lancers Shutout Buccaneers on Senior Night

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's  Soccer team returned to the field under the Coughlin lights for  senior night, as they welcomed Mass Maritime for a MASCAC showdown. The Lancers look to get back in the win column after a 1-0 loss Wednesday against UMASS Dartmouth.

 

Before the game seniors Hayley MacNeil and Riley Patenaude were honored for their contributions to the program.

The Lancers got off to a fast start as they jumped out to an early first half lead as Lucy Watson (Blackstone,MA) assisted by Erin Condon (East Bridgewater,MA) scored in the first 3 minutes to make it 1-0 Lancers early. Watson continued her goal streak as she found the back of the net, yet again, on a free kick to make it 2-0. The Lancers also displayed stellar defense as they held Maritime to 0 shot attempts in the first half. The Lancers continued their dominant defensive performance into the second half and picked up an insurance goal as Ava Lemanski (Clinton,MA) sent a ball across the cage to dip in off the post and goalkeeper to extend the lead 3-0. The Lancers still were not done as Jessica Forbes' (Clinton,MA) header assisted by Hailey Santos (Swanse,MA) made it 4-0. The Lancers scored their 5th goal courtesy of Forbes, with a long range drop in shot to the left corner, to put the finishing touches on their dominating victory.

 

The Lancers, who now sit at (5-8-2,5-2) look to build off this shutout conference win, as they return to the field Tuesday night. Mass Maritime (2-8-5)now sits at (5-7-1) on the season. The Lancers await the final MASCAC playoff pool seeding to find out Tuesday's opponent with the match currently set to begin at 4pm.
