Worcester's Second Half Push Falls just Shy

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers looked to improve their conference record as they traveled to Swenson field on Saturday night to play the Bridgewater State Bears.

The game was a nail biter from the beginning as the Lancers came out strong and seemed to catch Bridgewater off guard. Worcester was able to maintain possession for the first 30 minutes, but the Bears capitalized on a service to the far post that found the head of Jenna Sweeney. Bridgewater was able to find the back of the net again a minute later when a failed clear ball by Worcester was sent into the box and freshman Olivia Robarge was able to tap it in.

The Lancers remained positive going into the second half and kept Bridgewater stuck in their final third for most of the period. Midfielders first year Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA), senior Haley Skowronski (Douglas, MA), senior Cammi Arnold (Marlborough, MA) and senior Haley Samara (Worcester, MA) all had excellent games and were able to continuously connect passes, as well as dribble up the field and beat defenders 1-on-1. Condon was able to put Worcester back into contention with her goal in the 71st minute. The team ran with this momentum and the field was electric with the energy as the Lancers battled for the comeback. They recorded a number of shot opportunities including one from Haley Mignon that was just tipped by keeper Logan Levesque to hit the crossbar in the final minutes. Raelyn Callahan found the rebound but it was again saved by the keeper. Unfortunately, Worcester was unable to score another goal off their aggressive play and the game ended in a hard fought 2-1 loss.

Worcester State (2-9-1, 1-3) will play in another conference game next Saturday October 15 versus Salem St. at 11 am at home on Coughlin Field.
