Wilson's Hat Trick makes it 3 Straight over the Owls

Worcester, MA- After taking down Westfield State twice already, the Lancers men's hockey team looked to complete the season sweep of the Owls this evening in Worcester. On a night dedicated to the Worcester 6, the Lancers would get the job done.

Westfield State drew first blood, scoring within the first 10 minutes. The Lancers answered quickly when senior Mikey Wilson (Alexandria, Va.) found the back of the net thanks to a nice assist from linemate sophomore Brigham Neuhold (Edmond, Okla.) on a power play. Sophomore Martin Dlugolinsky (Stars Lubovna, Slovakia) would take advantage of a loose puck in front of the net to put the Lancers up 2-1 by the time the first intermission rolled around.

For the first 19 minutes and 45 seconds of the second period, the score remained 2-1. Neither the Owls nor the Lancers were able to take advantage of the two minutes they each had on the power play. But with 15 seconds left in the period, the Lancers extended their lead to 3-1. Mikey Wilson was able to tally his second of the night, thanks to an initial shot from sophomore defenseman Christian Phinney (Draper, Utah) that bounced off the right pad of the Owl net minder and right onto Wilson's stick for the rebound score.

Similarly to the second, the third period would see a lack of scoring throughout the majority of play. Then the nail in the Owls coffin would come, with an empty net and under two minutes to go. Mikey Wilson completed the hat trick to put the Lancers up 4-1 with the empty netter.

Sophomore Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) had a strong night between the pipes, stopping 20 of the 21 shots he faced.

Westfield State falls to 8-10-1 on the year and 5-9 in the MASCAC. Worcester State will head into their next game at a fantastic 9-4-1 in conference play (10-10-1 overall). That will come Thursday night at 7 p.m. when they host Framingham State in MASCAC play.
