SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 12, 2018) – Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.) scored a pair of goals as the Western New England University men's soccer team extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-0 victory over Westfield State University on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.
The Golden Bears got on the scoreboard with just under three minutes remaining before halftime, when Prindle received a pass from Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.)and buried a shot into the top left corner of the net.
Westfield had its best chances in the second half, as Sinha Kunphel (Nauset/South Yarmouth, Mass.) put a solid shot on net in the first two minutes of the second half that was turned away by Golden Bears' keeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.).
With the score still 1-0 late in regulation, the Owls Paul Soucy (Old Colony/Acushnet, Mass.) got off a clean header that sailed just over the crossbar.
Prindle finally doubled Western New England's advantage at the 85:40 mark on a feed from junior Arcel Kabongo-Ngoy (Franklin Square, N.Y.). Less than two minutes later, Joseph Fortuna (Burlington, Conn.) tacked on another insurance goal as he dribbled through the box and fired a shot through traffic to cap the scoring in the contest.
Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) finished with two saves in the shutout, while Owls goalkeeper Sean Moore (Agawam/Feeding Hills, Mass.) finished with seven saves.
Western New England outshot Westfield State 17-9, while the Owls held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Western New England (4-1) will look to keep rolling on Saturday, when the Golden Bears host Endicott College in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener at 1:30 p.m. Westfield State (1-3) returns home to host Framingham State on Saturday.
