Lancers unable to outsmart Engineers

Worcester, MA - The Lancers traveled to Cambridge Wednesday evening to take on the MIT Engineers in non-conference action. Worcester's two goals, including one in the final minutes in an effort to comeback from their deficit, the Lancers fell to MIT 4-2.

First-year midfielder Wilber Garcia (Bilbao, Spain) recorded his first goal of the season in the 20th minute off an intercepted pass from the Engineers and a shot in the net to put the Lancers up 1-0. The Lancers would keep their lead until the 60th minute, when MIT's Hendrick Mayer scored on a free kick. Will Seiple and Garrett Robinson then scored a minute apart to put the Engineers up 3-1, with just under 20 minutes to go in the match. 

Worcester State would see the net again in the 88th minute with a goal from Sophomore midfielder Waseem Mahmoud (Northborough, MA), assisted by Junior forward Luke-Mark ASnu (Salem, MA). This is Mahmoud's first goal of the season. 

Lancer keeper Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA) played the full 90 minutes in the net, saving 6 shots out of 10, while MIT's Zachary Zhang saved none of Worcester's only two shots on goal of the game. 

This brings Worcester State to a 6-3-5 overall record this season, while MIT improves to 8-6. 

 

The Lancers are back home this Saturday afternoon, where they will face the Framingham State Rams in MASCAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm.
