Falcons Drop Pair On Day Three Of Fast Pitch Dreams Classic

Kirkconnell and Porgorek combine for three hits and three RBI

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a pair of contests on day three of the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic, falling 14-0 to Madonna University in the opener before being edge 7-5 to Sweetbriar College in the night cap.

How It Happened

Game One

The Crusaders raced out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded junior Kelsi Littleton (Allen Park, Mich.) tripled to

right center scoring three. Next batter up freshman Elizabeth Savacool (Norton Shores, Mich.) laced another triple scoring Littleton.

Madonna extended the lead (14-0) in the fourth capitalizing on defensive miscues from the Falcons. Emily Thisen (Newport, Mich.) and

Jessica Dunkel (Fenton, Mich.) added RBI's.

With two outs in the fifth inning freshman Kata DiRusso (Medford, Mass.) collected her first collegiate hit as a Falcon with a single up the

middle. Sophomore Alyssa Beaulieu (Derry, NH) followed with another hit but the Green and Gold couldn't get them home.

Inside the Numbers

  • First ever meeting between the Falcons and the Crusaders with Fitchburg State 0-1 all-time when taking on Madonna
  • DiRusso, Beaulieu and senior Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) had hits for the Falcons
  • Freshman Hannah Pelletier (Swansea, Mass.) pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing just two earned runs on five hits for Fitchburg State.

Game Two
Sweet Briar grabbed a 2-0 edge in the top of the second as freshman Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) and classmate Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) collected RBI singles. Fitchburg State knotted the score at 2-2 in their half of the second when junior Allison Pogorek (Millbury, Mass.) ripped a two-run single to right center that scored sophomore Ella Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) and classmate Isabella Sousa (Charlton, Mass.).

The Vixen plated three runs in the top of the fifth with Hudson and newcomer Lauren Jamerson (Buckingham, Va.) registering RBI base knocks to take a 5-3 edge. The Falcons answered back in fifth and sixth innings to retie the contest at 5-5 as sophomore Kiara Bigeau (Clinton, Mass.) and junior Lauren Kirkconnell (Dayville, Conn.) driving in runs.

Sweet Briar broke the 5-5 stalemate in the top of the seventh on a pair of miscues and a sacrifice fly by freshman Kaydin Williams (Richlands, N.C.) as the Vixen held on for a 7-5 victory.
