Lancers Fall to Owls in Afternoon Battle

Lancers Fall to Owls in Afternoon Battle

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Field Hockey team (0-2, 0-0) is back home today to square up against former Little East rival Keene State as they aim to dominate the game and bring home the first win of the season. Last season Worcester dropped their game of the season to the Owls 4-2, but look to swap the plan this year in their third game for the first win of the season.

Final

Worcester State: 0

Keene State: 4

How it Happened:

The opening half of action was dedicated to the Keene attack as they wracked up 17 corners to the Lancers one and 20 shots with eight finding the pads of senior goalkeeper Madison Ferrara (Somerset, MA). The Owls would open the scoring at four minutes into the game when Meghan Daileanes received a pass from Irini Stefankos on the left side of the circle top send the ball past Ferrara to start the scoring action. The Owls second goal would come off a quick restart off a Lancer foul as Grace Bazin would collect the pass from Daileanes for another quick rip into the back of the cage. The final Owls goal of the half would come off a scrum in the second quarter that saw Ferrara turning away shot after shot from Daileanes before she was finally able to coral the ball and sneak it past for the 3-0 first half lead.

The second half saw a more balanced field as the Lancers attempted to work their way back into the game but an early goal just under five minutes into the new half action would make the task a challenge. Bazin would receive a passat stroke  from Alessandra Vidal who was sitting at the top of the circle for a quick tap-in to put the Owls up 4-0. As the Lancers offense charged in the second half, recording all four shots in the game, they were unable to find the needed space to sneak a shot into the back of the net.

Ferrara would end the game with 13 saves in the complete game action for Worcester.
