Falcons Fall To Ephs, 78-55

Williamstown, Mass. The Fitchburg State Men's Basketball team dropped a 78-55 decision to the Ephs of Williams College this evening in non-conference action from the John Wesley Chandler Athletic Center.

How It Happened

1st half

Fitchburg State opened the contest on an 11-2 run, keyed by seven points from senior Nicholas Tracy (Indianapolis, Ind.), while classmate Jordan Jones (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Devon Johnson (Washington, D.C.) added one bucket each.

Williams answered back with an 18-0 run, capped by an Alex Stoddard (Wellesley, Mass.) three ball to grab a 20-11 advantage. The Green and Gold responded with layups from Tracy and freshman Xavier Betancourt (Tampa, Fla.) to cut the deficit to 20-17.

The Ephs upped their lead to 32-20 as senior Henry Feinberg (San Francisco, Calif.) connected on a jumper before the Falcons closed the half with bucket from senior Charles Doss (Fitchburg, Mass.) to make the score 37-27 going into the break.

In the second half, Fitchubrg State chipped the lead to 45-40 on a three pointer from Jones, but Williams countered with a layup by freshman Nate Karren (Sacramento, Calif.) and a trey from Stoddard (50-40).

Following a free-throw by senior Matt Karpowicz (Wellesley, Mass.) to upped the Ephs lead to 59-49, Doss registered a layup for the Falcons (59-50) before Williams pushed its margin to 64-50 as Karpowicz hit a layup and  sophomore Jovan Jones (Boston, Mass.) buried a three-pointer.

The Ephs went on a 9-0 stretch with newcomer Cole Prowitt-Smith (Fairfield, Conn.) connecting on seven points, while Jones added a bucket. Fitchburg State answered back with a trey from freshman Toskany Abreu (Beverly, Mass.), but Williams secured the victory on a three-pointer by Prowitt-Smith, resulting in the 78-55 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Tracy with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals
  • Jones and Betancourt added eight points each for Fitchburg State
  • Karpowicz paced the Ephs with a game best 19 points, five boards and one assist
  • Prowitt-Smith chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds for Williams
  • Fourth meeting between the two schools on the basketball court with the Falcons 0-4 all-time when taking on the Ephs
  • Fitchburg State shot 23-for-66 (34.8%) from the field and (4-of-21) 19.0% from three point range
  • Williams finished 27-of-52 (51.9%) overall and (9-for-27) 33.3% for beyond the arc
