Framingham State: 79
How it Happened:
In the crucial matchup between the Worcester State Lancers and the Framingham State Rams, the two teams started out the first half with full intensity going back and forth trading buckets for the opening 10 minutes of action. Senior guard Brandon Goris (Bronx, NY) led the team with 14 points in the opening half but it was not until the second half of the opening 20 minutes that the Rams began to build a bit of a lead as Worcester was stalled at 16 points in the action and the Rams recorded 11 unanswered points. While the Lancers would resettle on offense and sharpen up on defense they were unable to build too deeply into Framingham's burst before the halftime buzzer sounded.
Coming back from half, the Lancers gradually took time to find their momentum, breaking the Rams lead back down to single digits at the 13 minute mark. Towards the middle of the quarter, Lancers would be stuck trying to find a way to get the ball into the basket allowing the Rams to pull away with a 14 point lead heading into the last 5 minutes. An insane comeback in the last few minutes with help from graduate student Sam Davies (Worcester, MA) hitting back to back threes and efforts from Goris from the free throw line brought the game back within 5. However, the Rams stood tall and were able to pull away with the win as they held on to thwart the Lancers hopes of wrapping up a top two seed tonight.
Davies would end the game with a crucial 21 points coming up short for a comeback win for the Lancers.
