Owls Fly Past Falcons in MASCAC Action

 

Westfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Owls of Westfield State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Alumni Field on Saturday morning.

How It Happened

Westfield State opened the scoring at the four-minute mark. Sophomore Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) threaded a pass through the Falcons defense for a break-a-way for Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.), who notched the first goal of the game. The Owls doubled the lead at 17:35 as Kylee Murphy (Haverhill, Mass.) deposited a goal inside the far post.

The Falcons cut the lead in half (2-1) with a goal from junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.). Read corralled a ball inside the box and headed her team-leading eighth goal of the season over the Owls goaltender.

The Owls regained the 2-goal advantage just before intermission with a goal from Delany Parker and added an insurance goal in the second half. Rennich notched her second goal of the game at the 52:11 mark en route to the 4-1 final.

  • Falcons netminder Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) posted 15 saves in the setback, while Lauren Davis (Templeton, Mass.) and Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) combined for the win, totaling two saves.
