Women's Lacrosse Posts 21-2 Senior Day Win Over MCLA

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior midfielder Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) tallied three goals and a career-high six assists including her 100th career-point as the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-2 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over MCLA on Senior Day at from Swenson Field. The game also marked the regular season finale for both teams.

The Bears improve to 10-7 on the season and 5-2 in the MASCAC, while the Trailblazers end the season with an overall record of 2-9 (0-7 MASCAC). Bridgewater State is now 7-0 versus MCLA since the Trailblazers added women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in 2015.

Langton added six draw controls for the Bears who also received four goals, two assists and a game-high seven draw controls from senior midfielder Haley Wood (Middleboro, Mass.) as well as three goals from freshman midfielder Meredith Sylvia (South Dartmouth, Mass.), two goal and an assist from junior attack Erin Power (Byfield, Mass.) and two goals, an assist and four draw controls from sophomore midfielder Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.).

BSU freshman attack Ashley Silva  (Rowley, Mass.) potted her first three collegiate goals and added an assist, while junior defender Bridget Lane (Newburyport, Mass.) notched her first collegiate goal.

Senior Olivia Kerrigan (Braintree, Mass.), junior Laura Giovaniello (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Brooke La Torra (Oak Park, Calif.) combined to make three saves between the pipes for the Bears with Kerrigan picking up her seventh win of the season. Kerrigan played the first quarter and came back in to play the final 3 ½ minutes of the contest as she turned aside the only shot she faced.

Senior midfielder Skyelyn Haynes (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Julia Graham (Chittenango, N.Y.) each scored a goal for MCLA. Lori Lester made 14 saves for the Trailblazers.

Bridgewater held a decided advantage in shots (41-10), ground ball (21-2) and draw controls (21-6). The Bears were also a perfect 9-for-9 in clear attempts and 2-for-2 on the free position.

Prior to the start of the game, the Bears honored Kerrigan as well as fellow senior Katie O'Brien (Pembroke, Mass.).

Up Next: Bridgewater is the #2 seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will have a first-round bye. The Bears will host a semifinal round game with either #3 Framingham State University or #6 Fitchburg State University on Thursday night at seven o'clock.
