Men's Basketball Downed by MCLA Despite 27 from Siayor

NORTH ADAMS, MA: Fitchburg State men's basketball was defeated by MCLA this evening in conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/3/24

- Score: MCLA 76, Fitchburg 71

- Records: MCLA (6-6, 1-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (2-11, 0-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  MCLA jumped out to their biggest lead of the game in the first half at 15 points with 4:17 left. They would stall out, allowing the Falcons to get back within eight before the break.

- The second half saw the Falcons try and regain the lead behind Frederick Siayor (Worcester, MA), who had 21 of his 27 points in the second half. Fitchburg tied the Trailblazers 41-41 in the half but couldn't make up the deficit from the first half.

- Quentin Gittens led the way for MCLA with 17 points and eight rebounds. Hayden Morris-Gray finished just behind him with 15 points and seven rebounds on the night.

- The Falcons had one other score double digits in this one. Freshman Kamau Franks (Converse, TX) had 13 points with five rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: Both teams shot an even 40% from the floor. Fitchburg was better from deep at 37.5% to MCLA's 26.9%. The Trailblazers topped Fitchburg at the line, shooting 77.8% compared to 65.2%.

-  Rebounds: MCLA 43, Fitchburg 38

-  Assists: MCLA 13, Fitchburg 8
